Gorgeous in Verdon.
Sunday 17th September 2017 - Les Salle-sur-Verdon.
We had a tip from our French correspondent, Sian, that the Gorge du Verdon was a particularly beautiful area. I always believe in taking good advice, so off we set.
Our morning was beautiful and sunny. After breakfast we did our physical jerks and I reacquainted myself to my legs.
We set the appropriate CD in the player and set off. The CD was The Carpenters as we drove through the town of Carpentras. Our coffee stop was a small hillside village called Goult. Despite having nothing designated on the map of interest it was a lovely village with narrow streets, an old chateau, an old moulin and great views of the whole valley and the Luberon hills. We drove through The aptly named town of Apt and then onto smaller windy roads towards the Verdon region. On the way we passed fields of lavender that unfortunately had been harvested.
We passed by Moustiers Sainte Marie which is a picture postcard small town which we will revisit and then we had sight of Lac de Sainte-Croix......
Our destination is Les Salles-sur-Verdon which is across the lake. We got to our destination site and paid real money to stay for 3 nights about 30 metres from the lake shore. It has actual toilet paper and warm showers. Wow! The toilets and showers are, again, unisex.
We haven't seen the Gorge yet but intend to cycle it whilst we stay. If it's as good as what we have seen already we will be impressed.
