Toulouse Sausages!

Sunday 24th September 2017 - Le Lavandou.

Another lovely day of pleasant temperatures and blue skies.  I did the morning bread shop in town and we hung around the site and did some sunbathing till after morning coffee.  Then we put on our swimming costumes (Janice calls them 'dookers', she says it's a Scottish word and she says it's short for having a dunk and dookers are what you wear whilst have a dunk in???).  Then we cycled to the beach and had a 'dook'.

The sea was lovely and clear.... but a little cold around the dookers until I was acclimatised.  We hung around in the sun for about an hour, had another swim and then headed back for a late lunch.

In the afternoon we again set off on bikes southwards to Cap Benat, only to be prevented by a security guard as we approached the tip of the peninsula.  It is apparently a private area, only for rich people.  We turned around and headed inland instead and found a hill to climb.  Up we went to the hill village of Bormes-les-Mimosa.  A lovely quaint, unspoilt, hill village with an old ruined chateau and church and lots of little alleys.

At tea time it turns out that Janice is partial to a Toulouse Sausage.  Quite substantial and a little bit spicy, mmm.  No smutty comments please.  We had another promenade along the beach in the evening before coming back to complete a crossword.  I say 'complete' loosely because we never seem to complete them.  We do two types of crosswords that we have saved up from the Sunday Times, one is the Big General Knowledge crossword which we are lucky to complete 50% of and the other is the Concise crossword which we manage about 70% of.  Tonight we did the Concise version and here's one of the clues....Star Sign (8)?  See the answer at the end of the blog.

There is a downside to nice warm sunny weather on the Med, and that is mossies!  The evenings and nights are pretty warm so we want ventilation in the van and we have fly screens shut and the door fly screen is in full use (although I suspect some blighters sneek in behind our backs).  We have an insect swatter too for use if the mossies breach the perimeter security.  Last night I was disturbed by buzzing but miraculously seemed to be unscathed this morning.  I suspect that we will have to maintain high security standards though.

Answer to crossword clue......Asterisk.  What a rubbish clue.  We were thinking of zodiac signs and could only get Aquarius but it didn't fit with other answers around it.  OK, I know an asterisk is in the shape of a star but......grrr!
