Bon Anniversaire Janice, ma cherie!

Saturday 7th October 2017 - Uzes.

First and foremost today was Janice's birthday.

She is making a habit of having her birthday away from home but it was so nice of people to send her happy birthday messages by text and she still had a few cards to open.

Whilst in Uzes we called into an artists shop that caught our eye and Janice used her Dad's birthday money to buy a lovely original painting of Place aux Herbes, the main square in Uzes.  We had looked at several by the artist, Thierry Bedet, but it was the first painting that caught our eye that was the one she chose.

All we need now is for the artist to chop his ear off, put himself in a mental asylum and then shoot himself and we will be quids in!

We had decided to 'break our canard' (so to speak) by having our first meal out of our trip.  We had our lunch out at a pavement restaurant.  I won't show you all the food we had but we had some oysters.....

And Janice had the canard.

We had three courses and Janice sat in a different chair for each course.  She was trying to get the best sunny seat as the sun position changed through the dappled tree shade.  The waiter must have thought we were eccentric Brits, who were superstitious about our eating position!!

For pud we had Crepe Suzette with lovely orange and chocolate sauce.

Our restaurant was next to a church which was very grand...

Lovely on the inside too.

Then we went for a walk through the vallee de l'Aude which is a nice parkland area on the outskirts of town where there were some ruins by the river which we were led to believe were part of an old aqueduct but we weren't too sure.

Back at the van we treated ourselves to a Birthday Cake substitute......

A custard tart, French style but no candles to blow out.  It was nice.

Oh, did I forget to mention Janice's age?  No I didn't forget!!  I just didn't mention it.
