Not Lancashire!
Thursday 5th October 2017 - Uzes.
The weather has been beautiful today, hot and sunny with little wind. We know it's Autumn though as the mornings and evenings are quite chilly and when we sit outside we hear the acorns falling from the trees.
We decided to do very little today. I started off our days evening meal before I had a small bike ride in the morning to purchase some basic foodstuffs. One thing I struggled to get satisfactorily was sun cream. I strongly suspect that the French have some system of preventing supermarkets from selling sun cream allowing only pharmacies to sell it at an inflated price? I checked a supermarket and two pharmacies and still couldn't get what I wanted for under 20 euro!
In the afternoon we had another little bike ride to a neighbouring town to check out their larger supermarket but they had almost nothing in the way of sun cream (one or two bottles of factor 50's but not what we wanted). We took a look in Montaren whilst we were nearby and it was very picturesque.
As you can see it's not touristy at all. No souvenir shops or cafes or ice cream shops. Just unspoilt and lovely. Back into Uzes and we managed to find a factor 30 sun cream by Nivea but it was the only one available.
Our last stop was at a vineyard near to the camp site. We thought we should give them a chance to test our taste buds. We were particularly impressed by their Rose wine and made a purchase.
We just had a small problem about cycling back to the site! It was a slow push. The vineyard has fields around this area and specifically near to the camp site, so it's nice to shop local!
Back at the site we lounged by the pool till 6pm, safe in the knowledge that the evening meal was ready in the slow cooker.
Our tea was 'Francaise Chaud Poterie', a bit like Lancashire Hot Pot but with some French ingredients purchased at yesterday's market. Lamb (of course), boudin noir, shallots, garlic, sweet and Charlotte potato and fennel. It also had lavender and Herbes de Provence in it. Very nice but it weren't proper! I think we will have more tomorrow but I need to give it more of a twist, I'm not sure whether it could be curry or include red wine!! The French need to get to Bury to see how to make a proper black pudding too!
