Edible mushroom?

Thursday 26th October 2017 - Moutier-sur-la-Ley, near Lucon.

We gave Tim lots of thanks for looking after us at his wonderful home and said goodbye to Matt and Sarah who were also flying back to the UK today.  Tim always makes us very welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We wanted to travel half way towards my brother David and his wife Wendy's house which is near the Vendée coast (northwest France but below Brittany).  We had no specific destination but we wanted to visit the Decathlon superstore at Niort.  We have stopped there before and have been tempted to buy our sports gear.  We stopped for lunch in the store car park.

I wanted to get some new running trainers today....and here they are.  I don't suppose they will make me go any faster.  I am obviously going through a blue period in my life!  We managed a few other purchases too, we always do.

We drove through Niort without stopping and had a break at Fontenay le Comte.  The weather was superb.  We walked through the town and enjoyed the old streets, chateau ruins and new chateau too.

We think the town may be on the route of the Tour de France next year as they had celebration decorations on the Mairie (Town Hall).  I suspect it will be on a sprinters stage of the Tour as there are no hills near here.

When we moved off we passed a restaurant called L'Allouette and we both sang the old song 'Allouette, Jaunty Allouette' and I was reminded of a rugby version of it.  Neither of us knew what 'Allouette' meant but found out it was French for 'Lark', the bird.  Of course I cannot repeat the rugby song words but it made repeated derogatory comments about a person's body parts!  I will try and find out if David remembers it when we get there tomorrow.

We found an Aire de Camping Car at a little village called Moutier.  It looks an nice place to stop, next to a basketball hall.

Our teatime meal consisted of produce from Tim.....eggs from his chickens and a very large 'mushroom' from his field.

We trusted Tim when he told us it was edible but if this turns out to be the last blog I post you will know who to blame!  If it's any consolation the eggs were beautiful and tasty with very yellow yolks and the mushroom actually had a mushroomy taste you never get from supermarket bought mushrooms.

This evening I will spend reorganising my Decathlon purchases and my clothing....which is mainly from Decathlon.  I should be paid for the advertising!
