On our way home.
Sunday 22nd October 2017 - Cahors.
We are on our way home....in a manner of speaking. John is definately on his way home. He flys back today and we are for the first time travelling north. We have actually had six weeks in France and we think another two weeks to go.
We had a slow preparation for moving on. John's flight was not till 4pm so this morning we took the tent down and had a light salad lunch. We dropped John off at the airport and said our goodbyes. It's been really good for John to visit and despite the number of churches I think he has has a good break. My food and alcohol consumption has certainly been up since John arrived...we have always competed for food....probably not a good thing really!
Whilst driving out of Toulouse I got flashed by a speed camera. It was on a dual carriageway and I think that the limit was 90kph and I might have been just exceeding the speed (naughty boy). I have a funny feeling that the French authorities can now get DVLA information to send out fines to British drivers but it is only something that has been allowed recently. It may be interesting to see if their is any nasty letters waiting for me when I get home? I think I will claim that the vehicle is left hand drive and Janice was in the driving seat!!
We drove north to our destination in Cahors. I chose it mainly because I know the wine but I believe it's a nice place too, although I can't say why. On our arrival the Aire de Camping Car was full but we drove 100 metres along the banks of the Lot river and found a quiet car park for a wild camp. The main town is on the other side of the river. We had a cup of tea and set off for a little walk.
What did we find.......
Into the old town we found the Cathedral St Ettienne.....another UNESCO site.
There must be a 2 for 1 offer from UNESCO. Cahors is also on the Route de St Jacques de Compostella (almost everywhere is on the route, or claims to be).
We walked around the town and dodged the showers but it was a nice quiet place on a Sunday afternoon. We are starting to feel a bit of an autumnal chill now but we've only moved 60 miles north of Toulouse.
I am again waging war with the fridge in the van. It is impossible to work out! Sometimes it works first time, sometimes it won't work after several attempts. The starting sequence is simple, 1) turn on the gas, 2) turn the fridge switch to gas operation, 3) press and keep pressed for 2 minutes or so, the button that draws the gas through the system and 4) let go of the button. It should then self ignite and I can hear the sparking device clicking but today it is not igniting. I am going to get a bush from nearby and give it a good thrashing Fawlty Towers style.
